Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 7, 2026. This policy covers the Nuri Bible app and this website, nuribible.com.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
Nuri Bible is a Bible reading app. We collect as little as possible, we do not sell personal data, and we do not use your reading or prayer life for advertising.
1. What we collect
- Account information: the email address you sign up with, and a display name if you choose one. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only the name and email address that service shares with us, which may be a private relay address.
- Reading and app usage: which books and chapters you read, your reading streak, highlights and notes you save, and the plans you join. This is what makes the app work — your place, your notes and your streak have to live somewhere.
- Chat usage counts only: how many AI chats you have used today and this month, so we can enforce the free limit (3 a day) and the Pro fair-use caps (50 a day, 500 a month). We count chats; we do not keep a history of your chat messages on our servers for advertising or profiling.
- Subscription status: whether you are on the free plan or Nuri Bible Pro, and when your subscription renews. Payments are handled by Apple or Google — including voluntary in-app purchase tips from the app's “Support Nuri Bible” tip jar, which unlock nothing — and we never see or store your card details.
- Website donations (not open yet): charitable giving on this website is not open yet, so we collect no donation information. When it opens, payments will be handled by Stripe, and we will never see or store your card details.
- Support messages: what you send us when you contact support, so we can answer you.
2. What we never collect
- We do not collect your contacts, your location, or your photos, unless you specifically choose a feature that needs them — and then only as described below.
- We do not sell personal data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
3. AI Bible Chat and Google Gemini
Nuri Bible's AI Chat is powered by Google Gemini, on the free tier to start. When you send a chat message, it is sent to Google's Gemini service so it can generate a reply, together with the relevant Bible verses as context. Your message is not sent anywhere else.
Please note the free-tier terms that apply to that service: Google may use free-tier content to improve its products, limits are set per project, and there is no service-level agreement on the free tier. If you would rather not use AI Chat, you do not have to — Bible reading, the Scroll feed and the Verse of the Day work without it, and the free plan's 3 chats a day are optional.
Chat has guardrails: it answers Bible, faith, prayer and devotional questions only, it does not give medical, legal, financial or pastoral-counselling advice, and it validates every Bible citation against real KJV or World English Bible text before showing it. Messages that are blocked by those guardrails are not sent to Gemini, cost nothing, and do not use your daily chat allowance.
For abuse prevention, we log counts of blocked or abusive messages only — never the message text itself.
4. Find Friends and your contacts
Find Friends is optional and is off until you turn it on. It is never required to use Nuri Bible, and skipping it loses you nothing.
If you choose to use it, the app asks your permission to access your contacts. If you agree, it hashes the email addresses and phone numbers in your contacts on your own device (SHA-256) and sends only those hashes to our server, to match them against the accounts of people who have chosen to be findable. The hashes are used for that one lookup and are then discarded. We never receive your contacts' names, raw email addresses or raw phone numbers, and your address book is never uploaded or stored.
A person you find this way sees only your display name — never your email address or phone number. You can turn off "Let my contacts find me" in Profile at any time, and then nobody can find you this way. You can also withdraw contacts permission at any time in your phone's Settings, without losing access to the rest of the app.
Inviting a contact who is not on Nuri Bible yet is done through your own share sheet — we never send a message on your behalf.
5. Community, prayer groups and sharing
Anything you choose to post, share or pray about in the Community tab is visible to the people you share it with — other members of a group, or anyone who sees a public post. Do not post anything you would not want those people to see. Prayer requests and comments can be deleted by the person who wrote them.
6. How we use what we collect
We use your information only to run Nuri Bible: to keep your account, your reading place, your notes and your streak; to enforce the chat limits and the Pro paywall; to show you people and groups you have chosen to connect with; to answer support messages; and to keep the app safe from abuse. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not build profiles of you for anyone else.
7. Who we share it with
We share data only with the services that run Nuri Bible on our instructions: Apple and Google for subscriptions and sign-in, Google for the Gemini chat service described above, Stripe for website donations once giving opens, and our hosting provider for the app's server. Those providers process data only as we instruct them, and only to provide the service. We do not share data with advertisers.
We will disclose information only if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account exists, and delete it when you delete your account (see section 10). Chat usage counts are kept only long enough to enforce the daily and monthly limits, then discarded. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve your request.
9. Children
Nuri Bible is intended for users aged 13 and over, or the age of digital consent in your country if that is higher. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that age. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
10. Deleting your account
You can delete your Nuri Bible account at any time in the app, under Profile, then Account, then Delete Account. Deleting your account permanently deletes your reading history, highlights, notes, chat usage counts, groups and posts. It does not cancel a Pro subscription — cancel that separately in your App Store or Google Play account settings, as described in our support page — and it does not refund past subscription payments. If you cannot access the app, email [email protected] from the email address on the account and we will delete it for you.
11. Your choices
- Turn Find Friends and discoverability on or off in Profile.
- Turn notifications on or off in your phone's Settings, or in the app.
- Choose Light, Dark or System appearance in Profile.
- Ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing [email protected].
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that affects what we collect or how we use it, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
13. Contact us
For any privacy question, or to exercise a right over your data, email [email protected].
A note on the free tier. Nuri Bible's AI Chat runs on Google Gemini's free tier while the app is small. That means Google may use free-tier content to improve its products, limits are per project, and there is no SLA. We keep chat use to the minimum needed to answer you, and you can use the whole Bible — reading, Scroll, plans and widgets — without ever touching AI Chat.
